Gorillas vs Chimpanzees – What’s the Difference & Similarities?
Gorillas and chimpanzees are both great apes, but they have significant differences and similarities. Gorillas are larger, ground-dwelling, and primarily herbivorous, while chimpanzees are smaller, more agile, and eat a varied diet, including meat. Gorillas live in structured family groups led by a silverback, whereas chimpanzees have more complex social structures with multiple males and females.
Chimpanzees are more intelligent, using tools and displaying problem-solving skills. While gorillas are generally peaceful, they can become aggressive if their young are threatened. Chimpanzees, on the other hand, can be unpredictable and highly aggressive, particularly during adolescence.
For wildlife enthusiasts, trekking experiences for both species are available in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Congo. Gorillas are best observed in mountain and lowland habitats, while chimpanzees are found in forests and savannahs. Both species can be visited in carefully managed eco-tourism settings.
